The London Nationals and their fans have plenty to celebrate today, as local defenceman Cooper McAslan has been selected to wear the maple leaf, earning a spot on Team Canada White for the upcoming 2025 U17 World Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia.
McAslan’s journey to this honour has been marked by steady development, dedication, and standout performances with the Nationals in the GOHL. As of this season, he has contributed five goals and ten points in 10 games. He was also selected in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection by the London Knights.
At 16 years old (born March 16, 2009), McAslan brings a strong physical frame (6’1”, 174 lb) and a right-shot presence to the blue line. Over the years, his development has shown the kind of trajectory that national programs look for in young defensemen.
The OHL has confirmed that 17 players from across the league were selected in total, with McAslan among those chosen to represent Canada White. On Team Canada White’s roster, he joins several highly touted OHL peers in pursuit of international success.
The 2025 U17 World Challenge will run from November 2 to 8 in Truro, Nova Scotia, with pre‑tournament games also scheduled in surrounding communities. Canada White will open the tournament against Sweden.
This is a major milestone not only for Cooper, but for the London Nationals program as a whole. It is a testament to the coaching staff, the player’s resolve, and the support network around him. We extend our sincerest congratulations to Cooper, and we look forward to watching him represent Canada on the international stage. Best of luck, #44 — wear the jersey with pride!
