London Nationals Proudly Enter New Era as GOJHL Becomes Official OHL Development League

The London Nationals are proud to share exciting news for junior hockey across Ontario. Beginning in the 2025–26 season, the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) will officially become the first development league of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL)—a move that strengthens the pathway for young players pursuing their hockey dreams.

For years, the GOJHL has been a launch pad for countless OHL stars—from Easton Cowan (Komoka Kings, 2021–22) and Oliver Bonk (St. Thomas Stars, 2021–22) to legends like Joe Thornton (St. Thomas Stars, 1994–95) and Jeff Carter (Strathroy Rockets, 2000–01). This partnership recognizes that proven pathway and elevates it further.

What this partnership means

  • Stronger support for OHL prospects and their development
  • A unified approach to training, competition, and mentorship
  • Higher development standards across all GOJHL teams
  • A fortified foundation for junior hockey in Ontario

OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford underscored the creation of a deeper, stronger talent pipeline into the OHL and beyond, while GOJHL Commissioner Craig Spada highlighted the league’s consistent record of graduating impact players— including more than 15 from last season’s Memorial Cup–winning London Knights.

For the London Nationals, this alignment further cements our role in preparing players to reach the next level. Increased exposure, enhanced development opportunities, and a cohesive growth framework will benefit our athletes and community.

Looking ahead

  • Season Opener: The 2025–26 GOJHL season begins Wednesday, September 10, as the Nationals visit the LaSalle Vipers.
  • Showcase & Coverage: A new GOJHL showcase will be integrated with the Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game on January 14, 2026 in Peterborough. Expect expanded prospect coverage, including a “Prospect of the Week” feature and collaborative marketing initiatives.

As we enter this new era, the London Nationals remain committed to shaping the stars of tomorrow and representing our community with pride.
