The London Nationals are proud to announce the promotion of Matt Overeem from GTA Scout & Video Analyst to Assistant Coach, recognizing his growing impact within the organization and his proven experience at the highest levels of junior hockey.
Matt brings a well-rounded hockey background that spans playing, scouting, video analysis, and coaching. A former Junior C player, he suited up for both the Port Perry Lumberjacks and the Thamesford Trojans, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for team culture—values that continue to define his approach behind the bench.
Following his playing career, Matt transitioned into coaching and video analysis, most notably with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. As part of the Generals’ coaching and video staff, Matt played a key role during a highly successful run that culminated in the team earning the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference Champions in 2025. Being part of a championship-caliber OHL program provided Matt with invaluable experience in preparation, systems, and high-performance environments.
Since joining the London Nationals, Matt has made an immediate impact through his detailed video work, strong player communication, and modern analytical approach to the game. His ability to break down film, support player development, and align scouting insights with on-ice execution has been instrumental in advancing the team’s overall hockey operations.
“Coaching is where Matt’s true passion lies,” said Nationals ownership. “His experience at the OHL level, combined with his work ethic and commitment to player growth, made this promotion a natural next step.”
The London Nationals would also like to sincerely thank Shawn Conners for his time and dedication with the organization. Shawn played an important role in helping guide the team to its current success thus far this season, providing leadership, experience, and stability behind the bench. His contributions helped establish a strong foundation for the group, and the organization is grateful for the professionalism and commitment he brought to the team.
As Assistant Coach, Matt will take on an expanded role focused on player development, game preparation, and bench support—continuing to help Nationals players grow, learn, and reach their full potential both on and off the ice.
The London Nationals congratulate Matt Overeem on his well-deserved promotion and look forward to his continued contributions to the organization’s success.
